A Little History...

The South Philadelphia Business Association has been of service to our community since its incorporation on October 15, 1897. The SPBA is a business association designed to promote, support and assist local business owners in the South Philadelphia community.  Most of our members are also residents of our community, and we provide business and community services to both members and non members. The SPBA assist all in need relative to the various business, community and government related issues.

Over the years, the SPBA has represented the interests of business owners and residents from a loosely configured portion of our community. South Philadelphia extends from the Delaware River to the Schuykill River and all of the neighborhoods in between these rivers represent the entire South Philadelphia community. We have various business districts in our community: East Passyunk Avenue Business Area, Point Breeze Avenue Business District, Columbus Boulevard and several large shopping centers, along with the Foxwoods Casino project.  Our mission is to link together the business owners, residents and community groups and effectively network, utilizing the collective efforts and resources of these grou0ps to pursue common goals, that improve the success of the business community and the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

On June 1, 2006 The SPBA formed a formal association with the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce (GPCC), wherein all members of the SPBA become affiliated members of the GPCC.  We desperately need to reach out to the economically disenfranchised sections of our community and integrate them into the mainstream of our business community.

Operating the administrative component of the SPBA is most challenging, since it requires manpower, experience and the ability to “get things done” for the members and constituents of our community.  Support services provide all the administrative needs for our organization. Some of the duties and services of the administrative component include, but are not limited to, city, state and federal agencies service requests, licensing assistance, business updates, legislative lobbying, and the coordination and preparation of our scheduled monthly dinner meetings (that bring together 60-100+ business owners each month for networking and guest speaker presentations).

The South Philadelphia Business Association office is located at 1505 South broad Street, which is located on the Avenue of the States and is a very visible location in our community.
